SUPERTECH TALENT PARTNERSHIP

Developing Next-Gen ProfTech Talent

What is the Talent Partnership?

The SuperTech Talent Partnership is an innovative initiative aimed at developing the regional talent pool, by driving exciting collaboration between firms throughout the cluster by linking them with selected training partners who have a demonstrable track record of impact in the region in our primary sectors.

Why we’re launching:

Our mission is to grow the ProfTech sector in the region, and access to skills is mission critical for supporting business growth.  Hence, we are launching the Talent Partnerships to better connect the regional talent pool with high value job opportunities. The West Midlands already has a broad portfolio of education, skills and training providers, and our aim is to bring key partners together in a collective capable of enhancing the level of ProfTech talent in the region. These key partners are already actively nurturing the development of essential talent in a broad range of skills relevant to the ProfTech sectors.

The benefits:

The Talent Partnership will connect our business community with an under-tapped pipeline of high-quality skills, including software development, AWS cloud engineers, IT support, cybersecurity, data engineers, data analytics, retrofit advisors, tech returners, upskilling of existing staff and more. Exclusive offers from our partners may also be offered to our community.

Our talent partners will have the opportunity to build closer business relationships within the local ProfTech community, and will be featured on our website and promoted through our communication channels. Announcements on new partners, success stories and case studies will be celebrated and promoted through an ongoing social media campaign, thereby amplifying the skills development that is ongoing across the ecosystem and potentially enabling further clustering of growth opportunities.

OUR TALENT PARTNERS

  • We started the School of Code to help get more and different types of people learning coding skills and benefiting from technology. Technology is the future, but as it stands, only certain types of people are shaping that future and feeling the benefit of the jobs, money, and opportunities in technology. Our mission is to make learning to code fun, social, and accessible to everyone! We want to change tech education to produce well-rounded, world-class, hyper-diverse talent and believe that everyone should have access to top-quality education.

We run free intensive coding bootcamps which consistently produce transformational, ready-to-work software talent. In just 16 weeks, we take cohorts of remarkable individuals and transform them into full-stack, work-ready junior developers capable of adding value to any Agile tech team. Our courses mirror a modern industry environment with regular stand-ups, retros and sprints. We then work with a wide range of Employer Partners from startups and SME'S to corporates such as Santander, Bravissimo, The Economist and Huel to solve their technical hiring challenges with our diverse tech talent pool.

Our cohorts are representative of the communities they come from, with a 50:50 gender split, age-range of 18-60 and demographics proportional to the local area. Through our programmes we've enabled career changers such as carers returning to the workforce, single parents, low income workers, workers with few skills/qualifications, refugees and long term unemployed people all to enter the fulfilling, well paid and stable careers found in tech.

  • Generation is a global social enterprise that trains, supports and places people into life changing roles, otherwise inaccessible to them, while providing employers with the highly-skilled, motivated talent they need. We provide a range of high quality 9-12 week tech programmes that teach the tech, but also the behaviours and mindsets needed to be successful for roles such as Cloud Support Practitioners, IT Support Technicians, Data Engineers, and Data Analysts. We underpin this with extensive mentoring and coaching support.

Generation UK&I was set up as UK Charity in 2019 and we launched in the West Midlands in 2020. We are growing at scale and have so far helped over 1000 people into work nationally, 250 people in the West Midlands through our bootcamps to date, with an 86% graduation rate and 70% placement rate. We provide a pipeline of motivated and talented people from very diverse communities and facing multiple barriers into work from across the West Midlands, and that employers would not otherwise have access to. With our high-quality training and focus on diversity, we help employers grow their teams with fresh talent and build a diverse and vibrant organisational people culture.

  • Through our brands, Northcoders and Tech Returners, we can provide businesses with the most diverse and comprehensive pool of tech experts.

Northcoders runs DfE funded Skills Bootcamps for those wanting to change their career into technology. We have trained over 1700 people from all walks of life to become Software Engineers in as little as 13 weeks. 90%+ of our Alumni go on to work at over 470 tech companies including Barclays, Jaguar Land Rover, Deloitte, BJSS, BT, InfinityWorks/Accenture and many more. We offer a variety of ways for Businesses to work with our graduates from straight up hiring, where there are no fees, to offering wrap around support, consult to hire agreements and embedding fully supported teams into organisations to alleviate the pressure on internal senior staff. We also now run bootcamps in Data Engineering and Cloud/DevOps Engineering. We also run Onboarding and Coding Academies for organisations wishing to reskill their own team members.

Tech Returners run sponsored and non sponsored cohorts Mid and Senior Engineers who have taken career breaks and looking to get back into tech. By the end of Q2 2023 they will have taken over 200 Returners through their programmes with Women making a 58% of their graduates. These people are either placed with the clients who sponsor the programmes or directly with other businesses. The average salary that Returners go on to receive is £48,000 and 89% of those placed are still in role after 12 months.

  • Growing Talent West Midlands responds to business concerns around talent, diversity and future workforce whilst ensuring that every young person can find a successful future, regardless of their background. Working closely with local employers, Growing Talent is uncovering the power of collective action.

Professional services and tech are brought to life for young people by employers through this year-round programme of exciting employer-led activity in schools and colleges. The activities we design and deliver together vary according to the ages of the young people involved but may include careers panels, guest speeches, masterclasses, sector insight days, speed networking, live brief challenges and large flagship events such as #GirlTechWM.

The programme is crowd-funded and allows businesses to play their part in creating a more equal and inclusive society, whilst reaching out to potential talent and the unique skills and perspectives that young people can bring to your sector. Your involvement in the programme is completely flexible to suit the needs of your business and all the activities in the programme are organised by Ahead Partnership with support and resources that help volunteers get involved, whether they are office or home based.

  • Digital Innovators offers an exciting and innovative solution based on the principles of Digital Transformation. Our consultancy-led approach to solving business problems, whilst providing people in vocational education (from local FE colleges) with the skills employers need, creates alternative career pathways to entry level roles via apprenticeships. Young people on the Digital Innovators Skills Programme are part of the digitally innate generation. Regardless of discipline, they have the knowledge and potential to bring innovative digital transformation solutions to businesses across many sectors.
